If you are unhappy with the shape of your ears- the creases, folds, cup size – this can be corrected with Otoplasty. [Before and after Otoplasty] [Pre- and postoperative instructions for otoplasty] How is the surgery performed? After the initial consultation, Dr. Younger may recommend repositioning of the ear(s). Dr. Younger and his staff will thoroughly explain the pre operative steps, the procedure, and postoperative care. Young children usually undergo a general anesthetic in a hospital setting, while adults fair well with local anesthetic and oral sedation done on an out patient basis in our office operating room. Once the patient is comfortable an incision is made behind the ear, where the scars will be easily hidden in the natural crease. Depending on how much protrusion or the size of the ear, Dr. Younger will either remove skin and cartilage or will remove excess skin and sculpt the cartilage. The goal is to reduce the size or shape of the ear and reposition it closer to the head. Permanent sutures are frequently placed in the cartilage to secure its position and create natural looking ear folds. The average otoplasty surgery lasts 1 to 2 hours and the patient is discharged home the same day
