Restylane

What is Restylane?
Restylane is considered a premier wrinkle filler because it is a safe, temporary, non-animal form of hyaluronic acid gel, a naturally occurring substance that binds water to cells. Restylane is injected to fill out creases and lines. It is not to be confused with Botox, which  basically relaxes muscles, and they work brilliantly together as a team. The  most common areas to have done are lips, nasal labial folds, smile lines and  drooping corners of the mouth.
[Before and After Lip Injection]
Where do you put Restylane®?
Restylane® is used for smoothing out folds and wrinkles, enhancement of the lips as well as shaping facial contours. Injections of the nasolabial folds or glabellar lines is often requested and successfully performed with Restylane®.
Can Restylane® be used for any other wrinkles?
Restylane® can safely be injected to any area of the face.
How long will it last?
The actual treatment takes only a few minutes and the Restylane® takes effect immediately.  Since Restylane is a natural substance, which dissolves over time, the correction does not last forever. Typically patients see the effects fade around 6-8 months. A simple reinjection at this time can restore the desired look.
Who can perform Restylane®?
Only a physician trained in the use of Botox® should do this therapy.
Are there any Side Effects?
Restylane has minimal side effects. Additionally there may be minor swelling and redness after the treatment, which typically resolves in a day or two.  Allergic reactions to Restylane are uncommon.
Post treatment check list
There are certain things to pay attention to after treatment of lips and wrinkles with Restylane.
    • Avoid touching treated area within the following 6 hours. After that, a light makeup can be applied and the area can be mildly washed with soap and water.
    • Until the initial swelling and redness have resolved, do not expose the treated area to intense heat (tanning bed) or extreme cold.
    • Immediately after the treatment, there may be slight redness, swelling, tenderness and an itching sensation at injection sight. This is a normal result of the injection.  The inconvenience is temporary and generally disappears in a day or two.  If the inconvenience continues or if other reactions occur, please contact our office.
    • The initial swelling after lip treatment may last longer, up to a week, and the lips can look somewhat uneven. This means that the results directly after the injection should not be looked upon as the final result.
    • If you are using aspirin or any similar medication, be aware that these may increase the bruising and bleeding at the injection site.
    • If you have suffered from facial cold sores, there is a risk that the needle puncture could trigger another eruption, medication can be prescribed to minimize the risk.
